Privacy Policy
The short version
There is no Breve server. There is no account to create. Your cards, reviews and notes are stored on your device, and sync only through your own iCloud if you leave iCloud on. Nothing you study is sold, shared, or used to build a profile, and nothing tracks you across other apps or websites.
Who this covers
Breve is an app for iPhone and iPad, built by Irakli Chkuaseli. This policy covers it and this website. It does not cover Apple's services, which are governed by Apple's own privacy policy.
What Breve stores, and where
Breve keeps two separate stores on your device, and the split is deliberate.
Stored on your device and synced through your iCloud
Your decks, cards, review and scheduling history, the patterns derived from that history, and journal notes you write yourself. This travels through your own iCloud account, between your own devices, using Apple's CloudKit. It does not pass through any server belonging to Breve, because there isn't one.
Stored only on the device that created it
Anything produced by generation or capture stays local and never syncs: generation tasks, runs and proposals, source material you add, transcripts, readings, comprehension records, and generated briefs. Speaking passages, their transcripts and any audio are local too, and audio is not retained after a session.
What actually leaves your device
Four things, and none of them is your learning.
- A configuration fetch, at every launch
- Breve asks Firebase Remote Config for its settings when it opens. That request carries your device's country or region, language, time zone and OS version, plus the app's bundle identifier, its Firebase app identifier, and a per-install Firebase installation identifier. It happens for every user on every launch, before any AI consent is asked for. It carries nothing you have studied.
- A device check
- Breve uses Apple's App Attest through Firebase App Check to confirm that requests come from a genuine copy of the app. This attests the device, not you.
- Your own iCloud sync
- If iCloud is on for Breve, your decks, cards and review history sync through your own Apple account, between your own devices. Apple handles that. The developer has no access to it.
- Purchases
- Subscriptions are handled entirely by Apple through StoreKit. Breve never sees or stores payment details.
Artificial intelligence
Breve resolves work through a chain, and prefers the least exposed option that can do the job. Bundled dictionaries, morphology tables and grammar catalogs need no model at all. Above those sit Apple's on-device model and Apple's Private Cloud Compute.
Breve is also built with a fourth tier for cloud generation through Google's Gemini, reached via Firebase AI Logic.That tier is switched off, and while it is off it sends nothing. Turning it on would require a Pro subscription, a separate disclosure naming that processing, and your explicit consent, in that order. If it is ever enabled, this policy will be revised first, and consent given against an older version of this document does not carry over.
Permissions Breve may ask for
Breve asks for a permission only at the moment a feature needs it, and declining leaves the rest of the app working. It may ask for notifications and study alarms, and it carries camera, microphone and speech recognition permissions for capture and speaking features. Several of those features are not available in the current release, and Breve does not ask for a permission a feature it cannot run would need.
What Apple's App Store label says
Three categories are declared, all marked "Data Not Linked to You", none used for tracking:
- User content. The cards and notes you write, used only to run the app.
- Photos or videos. Declared for image-based card creation. That route is not available in the current release.
- Diagnostics. The launch-time configuration fetch described above.
Breve contains no advertising, no analytics SDK, and no tracking domains.
Children
Breve is not directed at children, and does not knowingly collect personal information from them. Because there is no account and no server, Breve holds no personal information about any user to begin with.
Keeping and deleting your data
Breve holds nothing about you on a server, so there is nothing to request from it and nothing for it to delete. Deleting the app removes everything stored on that device. Anything synced sits in your own iCloud account and is managed from iOS Settings, where you can delete Breve's iCloud data yourself. Purchase records belong to Apple.
Changes to this policy
The version and date at the top identify this exact revision. Breve binds them: consent recorded against one version does not transfer to another, so a change that affects how your data is handled asks you again rather than assuming.
